Absent: Blake Larson

Agenda

  • Approved as submitted.

Secretary Report

  • Ryan Mueller submitted the May minutes in advance; Mike Rankin acknowledged receipt and confirmed they looked complete.

Treasury Report

  • No formal treasury balance was presented at this meeting.

Old Business

  • Board Meeting Schedule
    • The board finalized a standing schedule: board meetings will be held the first Tuesday of each month at 4:00 PM going forward, replacing the previous floating-date approach.
  • Dumpster Weekend Recap
    • Both dumpsters saw strong use over the weekend; Larry’s was nearly full by Friday evening, while Chuck’s (the historically slower side) still had room through the weekend.
    • Leslie Hind reported the total cost for this year’s dumpster service was approximately $2,200 (a $1,300 prepayment plus tonnage overage), comparable to the association’s total membership dues intake.
    • Ten new residents paid membership dues ($20 each) in connection with the dumpster weekend promotion on Facebook.
    • Leslie Hind will research alternate dumpster vendors ahead of next year’s booking, following a difficult experience with the current provider; she has three vendor leads to follow up on.
  • Herbicide/Roundup Use Near the Lake
    • Leslie Hind reported two separate resident complaints regarding possible Roundup spraying near the SW side of the lake.
    • Leslie Hind noted this appears to be an ongoing matter under investigation by the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks regarding herbicide spraying on the lake’s south side, after a video was submitted to the department.
    • The board agreed Leslie Hind will post a reminder on Facebook about the prohibition on spraying Roundup or fertilizer near the lake, without naming any individuals, and will ask residents to report any observed violations.

New Business

No additional new business items outside the boat parade planning below were raised.

Special Events

  • 4th of July Boat Parade
    • Prizes: Natalie Hill and Sandy Adams will coordinate to assemble four prize bags (first, second, third place, and judges’ award), targeting lake-themed items such as waterproof Bluetooth speakers, solar chargers, and personalized stainless tumblers, with a budget guideline of roughly $100-$120 per bag; Natalie Hill will share her Amazon shopping list with Sandy Adams.
    • Trophies: Amy Heaven will contact Dave Murphy (Murphy Trophy, Parker & Old 56) about pricing, targeting a simpler award in the $50 range.
    • Grand Marshal: The board reached informal consensus to invite Harold Quaintance, with his wife Diane, as this year’s Grand Marshal. Mike Rankin will personally extend the invitation. Amy Heaven will write a short bio for Facebook and email promotion; the bio will not reference Harold’s upcoming move.
    • Judging/Voting: The board will again use Facebook voting after the parade, with a roughly one-hour voting window (proposed close around 5:00 PM). Ryan Mueller will manage uploading photos and running the voting post; board members handing out numbers (Leslie Hind, Sandy Adams, and others) will text or email Ryan Mueller photos as they are taken to speed up posting.
    • Prize Pickup: Winners will collect prizes the same day at Sandy Adams’s dock so they can enjoy their victory lap.
    • Number Registration: The board discussed moving number pickup from boat-to-boat handoffs (difficult and unsafe in wind) to a dock-based system, using the marina/shelter dock and/or Mike Rankin’s dock, with designated volunteers handing out numbers and taking photos. Pre-registered residents will have guaranteed dock pickup; day-of registrants may need to receive numbers on the water.
    • Number Placards: Leslie Hind will check inventory of the existing Cricut-made number placards, which may be incomplete, and follow up with Greta if needed. Printed, laminated numbers were discussed as a backup option.
    • Promotion: Natalie Hill and Sandy Adams will compile event details (registration process, voting instructions) and send them to Ryan Mueller, who will design a promotional flyer, including a feature on Harold and Diane Quaintance. Mike Rankin will distribute the final flyer via MailChimp and Facebook. Yard signs (non-date-specific) will go out a couple of weeks before the event.
    • Committee Boat: Mike Rankin and Leslie Hind will help staff the on-water number/judging committee; the board may seek an additional volunteer with a maneuverable boat to assist.
